July 1, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Texas Stars News Release
FRISCO, Texas - Dallas Stars General Manager Jim Nill announced today that the club has signed left wing Curtis McKenzie to a two-year contract. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
McKenzie, 24, made his National Hockey League debut in 2014-15, scoring four goals and posting five points (4-1=5) with 48 penalty minutes in 36 games with Dallas. The forward also registered 21 points (6-15=21) and 46 penalty minutes in 31 AHL regular-season games with the Texas Stars. He also appeared in three games in the Calder Cup Playoffs, registering two points (1-1=2).
In parts of three AHL seasons, he has earned 87 points (33-54=87) with 152 penalty minutes in 111 career regular-season contests. He has also recorded 16 points (4-12=16) in 26 Calder Cup Playoffs tilts and was a member of the Calder Cup winning Texas Stars in 2014. In 2013-14, he won the Dudley Garrett Memorial Award as the AHL's most outstanding rookie, his first full professional campaign.
"Curtis is a very mature young player who is hard-nosed and accountable," Nill said. "We look for him to continue growing all facets of his game and develop into an everyday NHL player."
The 6-foot-2, 205-pound native of Golden, British Columbia was originally selected by Dallas in the sixth round (159th overall) of the 2009 NHL Draft.
The Texas Stars will begin their seventh season at Cedar Park Center on Saturday, Oct. 10. Full season, 24-game and 12-game ticket packages for the 2015-16 campaign are on sale now. For more information, call (512) GO-STARS (467-8277) or visit TexasStarsHockey.com.
