Springfield Cardinals News Release

Springfield, MO - With eight Springfield Cardinals on the team, the North Division blew past the South Division, 9-4, in the 2015 Texas League All-Star Game before 7,370 fans at Whataburger Field in Corpus Christi, Texas on Tuesday night.

Springfield was well-represented before the game even began, as both C Michael Ohlman and RF Jeremy Hazelbaker participated in the pregame Home Run Derby. Ohlman advanced to the final round of the derby before being edged by Hooks 3B Tyler White for the home run crown.

The Cardinals continued to shine during the main event as well, with CF Charlie Tilson, DH Nick Martini, RF Jeremy Hazelbaker and C Michael Ohlman all in the North Division Starting Lineup. Tilson led both division's squads with a 3-for-5 performance, racking up three RBIs with one run. Martini went 1-for-3 with a double, two runs and a walk, while Hazelbaker went 0-for-2 but drove in a run, worked a walk and scored a run. All three outfielders also stole a base. After the Home Run Derby performance, Ohlman was kept 0-for-3 in the game while managing the North's pitchers.

On the mound, RHP Arturo Reyes (1.0 IP), RHP Chris Thomas (1.0 IP) and RHP Kyle Barraclough (0.2 IP) each logged scoreless performances. RHP Joey Donofrio was selected to the North Division team but did not pitch.

Trailing, 2-0, a couple of Cardinals helped get the North Division on the board in the top of the third. Martini led off the inning with a double to left field, before moving to third base on a groundout. After a walk, Hazelbaker brought in Martini with an RBI fielder's choice, bringing the North within one run, 2-1. After stealing second base, Hazelbaker tried to score from second on a Tilson single, but was thrown out at the plate by Midland RF Chad Oberacker to close the frame with the South ahead by one run.

Springfield RHP Arturo Reyes dealt a quick 1-2-3 bottom of the third, before the North tied the game in the top of the fourth. With one on and one down, Arkansas 1B Brian Hernandez knocked the game-tying single to knot it at 2-2.

Tilson and the North then swung in front in the top of the fifth inning. With Arkansas 2B Sherman Johnson at first base and one away, Hazelbaker worked a walk to put two men on. After a balk moved the runners to second and third, Tilson brought both men home with a go-ahead two-run single to right field, lifting the North in front, 4-2.

The South battled it back even with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth, but Tilson helped spark the North's go-ahead charge in the top of the eighth. Facing San Antonio RHP Tayron Guerrero, Tilson led off the inning with his third single of the night. After swiping second base, Tilson trotted home on a two-run home run from Northwest Arkansas LF Jorge Bonifacio, blasting the North into the 6-4 advantage.

Cardinals RHP Chris Thomas kept the new lead intact, dealing a three-up-three-down bottom of the eighth.

Martini then sparked a North rally in the top of the ninth to pad the advantage. After working a leadoff walk to start the inning, Martini stole his way to second base one out later. Another walk and a hit batter loaded the bases with only one out for Tilson. Tilson promptly notched his third RBI of the game, bringing in Martini from third base with an RBI fielder's choice on which everyone was safe. A Bonifacio bases-loaded walk forced in the inning's second run, before an RBI sacrifice fly from Northwest Arkansas 1B Balbino Fuenmayor capped the rally with the North leading, 9-4.

Cardinals RHP Kyle Barraclough took over to start the bottom of the ninth, and quickly retired his two batters in order with a fly out and a groundout. With two away and the bases empty, Barraclough gave way to Tulsa LHP Jeremy Horst. Horst induced the final out of the night, a fly out to Tilson in center field, closing the decisive 9-4 win for the North Division.
