Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
ERIE, PA - Eudy Pina collected four hits and Michael Conforto blasted a tiebreaking homer to highlight Binghamton's 17-hit showcase in a 10-5 win over the Erie SeaWolves on Tuesday night at Jerry Uht Park. After mustering just 10 hits in their previous three games, the B-Mets matched a season-high with five players recording multiple-hit efforts.
After inclement weather moved the start an hour and 57 minutes later, LJ Mazzilli drove in his first career Double-A runs and put Binghamton on the board with a blast in the third. With two aboard, the B-Met second baseman blasted Derek Hankins' 2-0 pitch into the left-field alley for a bases-clearing triple.
The SeaWolves responded in a flash in their next turn at bat. After Robert Gsellman walked Alberto Gonzalez to lead off the inning, Connor Harrell ripped the righty's next pitch inside the left-field foul pole for a game-tying two-run homer.
Binghamton grabbed the lead for good with another clutch two-out hit in the fifth. With a runner on first, Conforto launched a payoff pitch deep over the right-field wall for his third home run as a B-Met and tenth of the season. Josh Rodriguez capped the three-run frame by dumping an RBI single to center against reliever Confesor Lara.
The B-Mets blew the game open in the seventh, touching the SeaWolves bullpen for four runs. With the bases loaded, Wade Gaynor booted a potential inning-ending double play. The misplay allowed a run to score and opened the door for a sacrifice fly from Dustin Lawley and a two-run double from Pina.
Gsellman (2-4) allowed three runs on six hits in his fifth straight quality start en route to the victory. Hankins (2-6) was touched for five runs on seven hits over 4-2/3 innings in the defeat.
The B-Mets (39-37) continue their four-game series against the SeaWolves on Wednesday night at 7:05 PM. RHP Seth Lugo takes the hill against RHP Tommy Collier. The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame Show can be heard starting at 6:50 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF and the Binghamton Mets channel on TuneIn.
