Sioux Falls Canaries News Release
SIOUX FALLS, SD-Opposing pitchers are hesitant to throw to David Bergin for the past couple weeks at the Birdcage as the goliath-like hitter is 15-for-28 in the last two home stands. Bergin was 3-for-4 on Tuesday evening, but it wasn't enough as Sioux Falls (17-21) fell just short to the Wichita Wingnuts (20-17) by the final of 6-4 at Sioux Fall Stadium.
Wichita answered first in game two in the top of the third with two outs when Matt Padgett laced a single to right field, followed by a three-run homer by Joash Brodin. Sioux Falls quickly answered in the bottom of the fourth when David Bergin stroked the ball high into the night sky for a two RBI double. Michael Wing shortly followed with a double of his own that scored Bergin to put the Birds' within a run. RJ Perucki stepped up to the plate for Sioux Falls and hit a laser to left field that tied the game at four apiece. Ultimately, the Canaries scoring stopped there as Wichita went on to score a run in the top of the sixth and seventh innings.
Canaries' starter Jeremy Strawn (2-5, 4.56 ERA) picked up his fifth loss on the season as he tossed six innings, allowing seven hits and five earned runs.
Wichita starter and former MLB pitcher Scott Richmond (1-1, 3.27 ERA) threw six innings on five hit ball and allowed three earned runs in the evening matchup.
Sioux Falls will look to take the rubber match on Wednesday evening as they send RHP Shawn Blackwell (1-5, 3.52 ERA) to the mound in search of his second win in a Canaries uniform.
The Canaries will be celebrating National Hot Dog Day at the ballpark. Fans who come out to the ballpark can enjoy $1 hot dogs all game long.
