Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

SALISBURY, MD - Garret Cortright wiggled out of a jam in the ninth inning as Delmarva held off the BlueClaws 4-3 on Tuesday night at Perdue Stadium.

The BlueClaws had runners at first and third with one out in the ninth, but Derek Campbell popped out to second base and Joel Fisher struck out swinging to end the game and give Cortright his sixth save of the year.

Lakewood falls to 3-3/36-38 and they've dropped two straight after a three-game winning streak. Delmarva improves to 4-2/37-37 and 7-2 against the BlueClaws this year.

The BlueClaws took their first lead of the game on a two-run home run by Damek Tomscha in the top of the fourth inning, Tomscha's fourth home run of the season and second on the road trip. After Delmarva tied the game in the bottom of the fourth, Tomscha delivered again - an RBI double in the sixth that put the BlueClaws up 3-2.

The lead, however, was short-lived, as Yermin Mercedes' two-run home run off Scott Harris in the bottom of the sixth inning. Harris took the loss to fall to 1-2 on the year.

Lakewood starter Josh Taylor gave up two runs in 4.1 innings, with both runs scoring after Taylor retired the first two batters of the inning.

Delmarva starter Lucas Long allowed three runs over 5.1 innings of work before giving way to Nick Cunningham, who earned the win improving to 3-3 and retiring all eight hitters he faced.

Tomscha went 3-4 and drove in all three BlueClaws runs while Kyle Martin went 3-4 as well for Lakewood, scoring twice in the loss.

The series continues on Wednesday night at 7:05. RHP Tyler Viza (4-2, 4.12) starts for Lakewood opposite RHP Josh Walker (2-1, 4.50).
