Brantford Bulldogs News Release
HAMILTON, ONT. - The Hamilton Bulldogs filled out two import spots today by selecting a pair of defenceman in the CHL Import Draft. With the 21st selection the 'Dogs selected Ondrej Kachyna and with pick number 81 they selected Christian Mieritz.
The 17-year old, Kachyna, stands 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds. He collected 14 points in 36 games with Budejovice of the Czech Republic. Kachyna also represented the Czech Republic at the Under 17 World Championships. He posted one goal and four assists in seven games at the tournament.
Head Coach and General Manager George Burnett called Kachyna a "big mobile defenceman who is forecasted as a top prospect in next year's NHL draft."
Mieritz, also a 17-year old, stands 6-foot-1, 200 pounds and played last season with Rødovre in Denmark. He posted six points in 32 games last season. Immediately after the selection Christian said he is excited to come to Hamilton, "Since I was a little child, my dream was always to come over to North America to play hockey."
Burnett believes Mieritz has a ton of upside, "He's a young man who has represented his nation on three different occasions and captained his team at the Under 18 World Championships." He adds, "He's a good skater and plays the game hard."
The Bulldogs also announced that forward David Tomasek has been deleted from the roster. Tomasek informed the team via his agent that he will remain in the Czech Republic and play professional hockey this season.
"When we were informed of David's intentions it was not a surprise at all," said Bulldogs Head Coach and General Manager George Burnett.
Bulldogs season tickets are on sale now for as little as $12 per game! Don't miss your chance to see the future stars of the National Hockey League today in Hamilton.
