Match Preview: Sacramento Republic FC vs Real Monarchs SLC

Sacramento Republic FC (9-6-2, 29 pts) finish their three-match road stretch when they travel to Sandy, Utah, to take on Real Monarchs SLC (1-8-6, 9 pts). Kickoff is 4:00 p.m. PDT at Rio Tinto Stadium.

This will be the third of four matches between Republic FC and Real Monarchs SLC this season. Republic FC is currently 0-1-1 against the the Monarchs, falling 0-1 at Rio Tinto Stadium on April 29 and then drawing 1-1 at Bonney Field on May 30. Forward David Estrada has the only Republic FC goal against the Monarchs, while Monarchs forward Max Rauhofer has scored both goals against Republic FC.

Republic FC enter the match on a four-match unbeaten streak, after a scoreless draw with the Austin Aztex on June 27. Republic FC have also gone three straight road matches without a loss and leads the Western Conference with four road victories this season.

Goalkeeper Patrick McLain has been crucial for Republic FC on their current road stretch, allowing just one goal in the last two matches. During the last two matches McLain has registered 13 saves on 14 shots faced. McLain also recorded his Western Conference-leading fifth shutout of the season against the Aztex.

Midfielder Rodrigo Lopez will look to break and tie records in the match against the Monarchs. Lopez is currently tied with Kevin Molino for most career USL assists with 22. With his next assist Lopez will stand alone as the all-time leading assister in USL history. Lopez is also just one goal behind his own personal record for goals in a season. Lopez, who has scored nine USL goals this season, set a USL-career high with 10 goals last season.

Republic FC will be without defender Mickey Daly, who will be serving a one-match suspension for caution accumulation. Daly picked up his fifth yellow card of the season in the 18th minute of the match against the Aztex. This is the third time this season that Republic FC will have a player serve a caution accumulation suspension. Ivan Mirkoviæ (June 6) and Justin Braun (June 13) previously served suspensions and Lopez served a three-match suspension for a red card in the May 23 match against Oklahoma City Energy FC. Defender Derek Foran is on warning for caution accumulation, as he has four yellow cards this season.

Real Monarchs SLC come into the match on a three-match losing streak and an eight match winless streak since defeating Republic FC on April 29. The Monarchs have gone 0-5-3 since April 29, their only victory of the season.

Forward Rauhofer who has scored six of the clubs 13 goals this season leads the Monarchs. Rauhofer is a native of Uruguay who has spent 10 years playing professionally in Uruguay and Spain before traveling to the US. Rauhofer has also scored both of the goals against Republic FC this season.
