Raptors Fall 21-2 in Orem

June 30, 2015 - Pioneer League (PL)
Ogden Raptors News Release

The Orem Owlz (8-4) scored 21 runs on 21 hits and held the Ogden Raptors (4-8) to just three hits en route to a 21-2 final score in Orem.

The 19-run loss is the most lopsided game in Ogden history since the Raptors beat the Idaho Falls Chukars 20-0 on opening day in 2011. The 21 runs is the most allowed since a 21-10 loss to Helena in 2006.

The Owlz wasted no time, scoring four runs in each of the first two innings to jump out to an 8-0 lead. The Raptors scored their only two runs of the ballgame in the top of the fourth inning, which included a solo home run by Michael Medina, his third of the season.

But Orem added three more runs in the fourth and fifth innings, and six runs in the seventh to cruise to a 21-2 victory.

In his first game with the Raptors, Nick Sell had two of Ogden's three hits - a single and a double - and also added a diving catch in left field late in the game with the outcome long since decided.

The Raptors used seven different pitchers, including infielder Yensys Capellan who worked the eighth inning and only allowed a solo home run. Dennis Santana (0-2) got the loss after recording just four outs while allowing eight runs on six hits and walking five.

David Fletcher had four hits in seven at-bats for Orem. Ranyelmy Mendoza drove in four runs and scored four runs himself, hitting two home runs for a team-leading five on the season. Mendoza had just three at-bats, drawing three additional walks. Michael Pierson collected a team-high five RBI.

Ogden will travel to Idaho Falls tomorrow to begin a four-game series with the Chukars. First pitch is at 7:15pm MT.
