Fayetteville SwampDogs News Release

MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. - The Fayetteville SwampDogs dropped a slugfest to the Morehead City Marlins 16-8 at Big Rock Stadium Monday night.

The home run balls were flying early for the Marlins, with Dominick Cammarata hitting two long balls off Trey Hayes (Sr./Presbyterian) as the Marlins opened up an early 6-0 lead through three innings.

The Marlins tacked on two more in the bottom of the fifth, then sent 13 men to the plate in the bottom of the seventh inning to score eight runs and open up a 16-0 lead after seven.

Meanwhile, Marlins starting pitcher Colton Hathcock tossed a Quality Start, holding the SwampDogs off the scoreboard through his six innings of work, allowing six hits and walking three.

In the top of the eighth, the SwampDogs began on the comeback trail, scoring three runs against reliever Max Herrmann before he could record an out. The Dogs would eventually score six in the frame on seven hits to bring the score to a more manageable 16-6.

The comeback picked back up again in the ninth, with Tanner Woods (Soph./Chowan) delivered a two-run single, but that would be the only run the SwampDogs could muster.

Hayes (0-1) was tagged with the loss, while Hathcock (2-1) got the win for the Marlins.

The SwampDogs (12-15) continue their road swing with a game against the Holly Springs Salamanders Tuesday night at 7:05 pm. The SwampDogs return home on Wednesday, July 1st to host the Wilmington Sharks on Social Media Night. Follow the SwampDogs on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook for great deals throughout the park!
