June 29, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
CINCINNATI, OH- The ECHL has announced that Cyclones owner Ray Harris has been named Chairman of the ECHL Board of Governors. He replaces Gwinnett's Steve Chapman, who had been Chairman since 2006-07. Chapman leaves for a position with the National Hockey League's St. Louis Blues. Harris was unanimously voted Board Chairman by the other members of the Board of Governors.
"I am honored to lead the league in this new role," said Harris. "I certainly want to thank Steve for his service in this capacity over the past nine seasons, and I look forward to working more hand in hand with the Commissioner, Brian McKenna, the League Office, and all of the Board of Governors."
The role of Chairman of the Board of Governors is an important one. The primary responsibility of the position is to put together the committees that are responsible for creating many of the rules and initiatives that are crucial to the success of the League such as on-ice rules, player safety regulations, and marketing initiatives.
Harris will also serve as the liaison between the board and the League office, and serve as the moderator of all Board of Governors meetings.
"Ray is an experienced, successful operator and long-time member of our Board of Governors and Executive Committee," stated McKenna. "We all value Ray's leadership and direction and I look forward to working closely with him to continue to grow and strengthen the ECHL."
The ECHL Board of Governors consists of 28 members, representing the 28 clubs in the nation's Premiere 'AA' Hockey League.
