CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS (June 28, 2015) - One pitch after Teoscar Hernandez stole home, Jio Mier knocked a three-run home run to help the Corpus Christi Hooks win 7-2 against the Frisco RoughRiders on Sunday at Whataburger Field. Mier scored two runs and notched his fifth multi-hit game against the Riders this season.
Riders starter Andrew Faulkner (6-4) allowed runs in four of his five innings. Back-to-back singles put the Hooks on the board in the first. Brett Phillips scored from first base on a long single by Tyler White to go ahead 1-0. Mier doubled and scored in the second inning before capping a four-run third with his fifth home run. White added a solo shot in the fifth, his fourth this season against Frisco. The left-hander lost for the first time since May 25 against San Antonio.
In the third inning, Hernandez swiped home as part of a perfectly executed triple steal. Faulkner threw home but not in time, and the pitch was called a ball.
Frisco was held scoreless until the fifth inning when a leadoff error charged to White allowed Pat Cantwell to reach base. Luis Mendez followed with a single and Luis Marte put the Riders on the board with a sac fly. Ryan Cordell added a RBI single to cut the Hooks' lead to 6-2.
Josh Hader (3-3) tossed five innings and allowed two unearned runs while striking out five. Juan Minaya threw two perfect frames and Chris Cotton bridged the gap to Aaron West, who pitched a 1-2-3 ninth.
The RoughRiders (3-3, 32-44) and Hooks split the final series before the All-Star break. The Riders return to action on Thursday, July 2 to begin a six-game home stand. featuring fireworks on July 3, 4 and 5. On July 5, the first 2,000 fans will receive a free Swinging Teddy Bobblehead.
