Bees' Rally Falls Short

(Burlington-IA)- Beloit batted 10 times in the top of the fifth inning, scoring five unearned runs, beating the Burlington Bees, 6-4 on Sunday afternoon at Community Field.

For the second straight game the Beloit Snappers opened the scoring in the first inning when Trent Gilbert slugged his fifth homer of the season, putting the Snappers on top. 1-0.

With the Bees trailing 1-0 in the top of the fifth inning, Beloit catcher, Jose Chavez reached on a throwing error. After James Harris drew a walk, Trent Gilbert singled to center, upping the Snappers lead to 2-0, scoring Chavez. After the Gilbert single, Sandber Pimentel singled, Max Kuhn doubled, and Jose Brizuela singled, opening up the score to 6-0.

Brandon Gildea started a Bees' rally in the sixth inning, lining a single to left and moved to second on a groundout and came home to score on an Andrew Daniel single. After the Daniel RBI single, Zach Houchins and Natanael Delgado came up with back-to-back run scoring hits, cutting Beloit's lead to 6-3. Trevor Gretzky led off the bottom of the seventh with an infield single and moved to second when Sam Koenig was hit by a pitch. After a Brandon Gildea sacrifice bunt, Jake Yacinich hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Gretzky, pulling the Bees to within a pair at 6-4.

The Bees' offense went down in order in both the eighth and ninth innings, losing 6-4. Beloit starter, Joey Wagman (3-2) earned the win while Justin Anderson (4-6) was charged with the loss, Kody Guana (1) earned the save. The Bees welcome in the Kane County Cougars Monday night at 6:30. Jeremy Rhoades makes the start for the Bees against Brad Keller.
