 Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders

SWB Game Notes

June 28, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release

LAST TIME OUT: The RailRiders were blanked 2-0 by the Buffalo Bisons on Friday night at PNC Field. Luis Severino and Jeff Francis authored seven score-less frames. Branden Pinder allowed the two decisive runs in the eighth inning on two walks and a pair of hits.

GOOSE EGGS: The RailRiders endured their third shutout loss, all at home. The team fell to Syracuse (6-0) on April 10 and Gwinnett (5-0) on May 7. The RailRiders' three shutout losses are the fewest in the league.

SO, THAT'S WHAT IT FEELS LIKE: The RailRiders have lost consecutive games for the first time since a three-game slide, May 30-June 1, against Norfolk and Pawtucket at PNC Field. Since then, SWB has posted six series wins and a two splits.

SLICE AND DICE: Luis Severino has not allowed an earned run in consecutive starts (14.2 IP). He has 13 strikeouts against two walks over his last two outings. The allowed two unearned runs to Lehigh Valley on June 21. Severino has a 1.46 ERA against Buffalo (2GS).

I AM THE LAW: Aaron Judge hit third for the first time as a RR. He did so 21 times in 63 games played with Double-A Trenton (.247, 3HR). For most of his tenure with the Thunder, Judge hit second (30G, .310, 7HR). He hit third 64 times in 65G with Single-A Charleston in 2014. Only three times in 66G with Advanced-A Tampa last year (mostly No. 4 hitter - 25G).

STREAKING STROKE: Despite a nearly week-long layoff in the wake of being hit in the head with a fastball, Austin Romine has assembled a 13-game hitting streak. He has hit .365 (19-for-52) over his run with 12 RBIs. Four of his five home runs and 21 of his 29 RBIs have come on the road, but his home contact clip (.271) matches his road number (.271). Romine surpassed Rob Refsnyder's 11-game run from May 10-21 as the longest by a 2015 RailRider. Only Columbus' Jose Ramirez (15) owns a longer active hitting streak in the IL.

JUNE JUMP: In 17 games played this month, shortstop Nick Noonan has hit .365/.414/.524/.938. He ranks among the IL's best in June average (3rd), OBP (8th), SLG (7th) and OPS (4th).

ROAD WARRIORS: The RailRiders stand four games below .500 at PNC Field (19-23) and 14 games over on the road (24-10). The team has hit .281 on the road compared to a .259 mark at home. On the road, SWB has scored 178 runs in 34 games (5.2/game). At home, the squad has plated 157 runs in 42 games (3.7/game). The pitching has performed better on the road (3.45 ERA) than at home (3.49 ERA). No IL team has a better road winning percentage than the RailRiders (.706), who have won 17 of 20 away from PNC Field.

OFF THE RAILS: SWB is an IL-best 17-8 in June...A 2-2 series split with Louisville snapped as string of four consecutive series wins...outfielder Tyler Austin was placed on the disabled list (retro 6/26)...Austin has played just four games since suffering a hip injury on a diving attempt of a triple at Syracuse (6/5)...Ben Gamel finished 0-for-4 Friday, dropping his average to .306 in 19 games as the team's leadoff man...

ROSTER MOVES: Matt Tracy (0-3, 5.79) was transferred to Double-A Trenton prior to today's game...Caleb Cotham was returned to SWB where he owns eight strikeouts in 4.2IP...Cotham was 4-2 with a 2.77 ERA in 1
