Oshawa Generals News Release

Oshawa Generals defenceman, Mitchell Vande Sompel has been selected by the New York Islanders in the 3rd round,82nd overall in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft in Florida.

Vande Sompel is known for his skating and offensive aspect of the game. He was an integral part of the Memorial Cup Championship winning team this year, with 63 points (12 goals, 51 assists) in 58 games played. He followed that up with another 14 points (5 goals, 9 assists) in the 2015 playoffs.

The London, ON native was ranked 34th in NHL Central Scouting's Final rankings for this year's draft. His offensive style of play as a d-man certainly helped him climb the charts. This past season, his versatility had him on forward when needed, specifically on the penalty kill.

Vande Sompel was drafted in the first round, 14th overall by the Generals in the 2013 OHL Priority Selection.

We congratulate Mitch and his family on this special accomplishment.
