San Antonio Missions News Release
A terrific outing by starter Jake Sanchez lifted Midland to a 6-2 win over San Antonio before a Friday night crowd of 5,863 at Wolff Stadium.
After getting blanked in Thursday's series opener, San Antonio got on the board early Friday, taking a 2-0 lead in the first off Sanchez on Alberth Martinez's two-run double to left center.
In the top of the second, Midland cut its deficit in half against All-Star right-hander Justin Hancock on a Ryon Healy's run-producing fielder's choice.
Two innings later, the RockHounds took a 3-2 lead. Chad Pinder led off the frame by reaching on an error by third baseman Duanel Jones, his second of the game. Josh Whitaker followed with a homer to left center.
Pinder upped the Midland lead to 4-2 in the fifth with an RBI single to center.
The RockHounds put the game away in the eighth against reliever Dennis O'Grady, plating two on a Pinder double and a Healy single.
Sanchez (5-5) evened his record on the year after allowing just the two early runs on three hits and no walks, while striking out five over eighth impressive innings.
Ryan Dull worked around a two-out double by Martinez in the ninth to cap the Midland victory.
Hancock (6-4) took the loss after allowing four runs (just two earned) on four hits and three walks, while fanning seven over six innings. The seven strikeouts were one shy of Hancock's career high.
