Eugene Emeralds News Release

EUGENE, OR - It's Flashback Friday! The first Friday of the Eugene Emeralds season promises to be one to remember, as we kickoff our 60th anniversary celebration. Sixty glorious years in Eugene have given us a wonderful opportunity to be a large part of the community, and this night will bring a lot of memories over the past years. Fans should be sure to come early for the 60th Anniversary Pennant Giveaway sponsored by Valley River Inn. Pennants will be given to the first 1,000 fans through the Home plate Gate.

Throughout the Emeralds 60 years, 293 Major Leaguers have donned an Emeralds cap! To celebrate this diamond anniversary, the Emeralds asked fans to vote for the 60th Anniversary Squad. Before the game today the Ems will announce this All-Star team.

During the game, the Eugene Emeralds are excited to have the Boys & Girls Clubs of Emerald Valley as the Kendall Community Spotlight. The Boys & Girls Clubs is a youth development program that focuses on academic success, healthy lifestyles, good character and citizenship. They provide opportunities for all children to achieve their great future. The Club provides a safe place for kids to learn and grow and daily mentoring with caring adult professionals. For more information about getting your child involved or volunteering be sure to visit them on the concourse, or visit their website here.

"At the Boys & Girls Club we work hard to make a positive impact on kids in the Emerald Valley," said Ryon Wheeler, Chief Executive Officer of the club. "We are very grateful to the Emeralds and Kendall for giving us the opportunity to share our mission and stories during this Fridays game."

This year the Eugene Emeralds proudly celebrate their 60th Anniversary. Since 1955, over 300 Emeralds alumni have made it to the Big Leagues. Our rich history includes players like Mike Schmidt, Bob Boone, Tom Gordon, Eric Davis and most recently 2014 AL Cy Young Award winner Corey Kluber. For the 2015 season, the Emeralds have made a major affiliation change by signing with the Chicago Cubs. Season tickets, mini plans and group tickets for 2015 can be purchased at www.EmeraldsBaseball.com, by phone 541-342-5367 and in person by visiting the Emeralds Box Office located next to PK Park. Individual game tickets are on sale now.
