Long Island opened up the scoring with a four-run fourth inning. A run-scoring throwing error by Sugar Land starter Matt Wright and a three-run home run to left field by Jon Griffin highlighted the frame. The Skeeters closed to within two in the bottom half of the inning against Ducks starter John Brownell on run-scoring groundouts to second from Chris Wallace and Johan Limonta.

Sugar Land tied the ballgame at four in the fifth inning on Delwyn Young's RBI single to first and a bases loaded walk to Travis Scott. However, Long Island took the lead back in the seventh on Lew Ford's RBI infield single to second.

It stayed that way until the ninth when the Ducks scored twice to take a 7-4 lead. Blake Davis' RBI single and a run-scoring fielder's choice off the bat of four accounted for the scoring. However, the Skeeters rallied for three in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game at seven. RBI singles by Denny Almonte and Young, as well as a sac fly from Scott, did the damage. Almonte won the game in the 11th on a first pitch solo homer to right.

Neither starter factored into the decision. Brownell pitched six innings, allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out four. Wright lasted six innings, yielding four runs (two earned) on four hits and a walk with five strikeouts. Andrew Johnston (1-0) picked up the win after tossing a scoreless inning in the 11th. Mark Rogers (3-4) suffered the loss after giving up the game-winning homer.

Ford, Davis and Reegie Corona each had two hits to lead the Flock.

Long Island and Sugar Land continue their six-game set on Friday night. Game time is slated for 8:05 p.m. EDT at Constellation Field. Right-hander Billy Buckner takes the mound for the Ducks against Skeeters righty Shane Loux. Fans can follow all of the action live on the Ducks' flagship radio station, 103.9-FM LI News Radio.
