June 25, 2015 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Florence RedWolves News Release

On another hot and muggy night, the (15-9) Florence RedWolves yet again traveled to Lexington to take on the (13-12) Blowfish, Thursday night. The Blowfish powered by the RedWolves with 9 runs off of 12 hits to beat Florence, 9-1.

The RedWolves were plagued once again with little offense and an assortment of errors, with just two hits and three errors in the game.

Lexington County's bullpen keeps delivering, as their starter, Robbie Baker (Richmond) picked up his third win of the season (3-0) working a strong seven innings. In those seven innings Baker gave up just two hits and suffered a run, but it was unearned; walked three and struck out six.

The Blowfish certainly brought the bats out to the park, pounding a total of 9 runs (5 earned) and 12 hits off of RedWolves pitching. For the Blowfish hitters, 11 of the hits came from the top four batters in the line up and were responsible for 6 of the 8 RBI's.

The two lone RedWolves hits came in the top of the third off of the bats from Ray Lanners (Methodist) and Chris Adams (Lee University). Though the only run plated for Florence came in the top of the fourth.

Ben Holland (Lee University) led off the inning with a walk, then would be advanced to second on a 5-3 sac-bunt from Kolin McMillen (Flagler College). After a ground out to short, that brought up Matt Williams (University of South Carolina). Williams grounded a one hopper to Howard Joe (Mercer), the Lexington County first baseman. Joe would have made the unassisted out a first for the third out, but instead threw the baseball back to the mound before his foot touched first base. All of the Blowfish defensive men were already on their way back to the dugout. Holland picked up the mistake and scored at the abandoned home plate. This gave Florence a 1-0 lead going into the bottom of the fourth.

Lexington countered back immediately tying the game in the bottom of the frame. Madison Stokes (University of South Carolina) reached safely on a one-out infield single, followed by a, Conner Owings (Coastal Carolina) double off the right-center wall, scoring Stokes (1-1).

The fish increased their lead by three in the bottom of the sixth, getting the best of Brandon Cook (Francis Marion). After back-to-back singles and a walk to load the bases, Danny Edgeworth (Mercer) had his opportunity with fish in the water. Edgeworth grounded a two-hopper to first base, but Ben Holland misplayed the ball, as it went into right field scoring two. Howard Joe then lifted one into left for the sac-fly, giving the Blowfish a 4-1 lead.

Lexington County went on to score five more runs, two in the seventh and three in the eighth, to beat the Florence RedWolves 9-to-1.

The first four batters in the Blowfish lineup Thursday provided exactly what was needed:

Jared Williams (University of South Carolina) 2-5, 2 R.

JD Crowe (Francis Marion) 2-5, 2 R, 2 RBI.

Madison Stokes, 3-5, 2 R, 2 RBI.

Conner Owings, 4-5, 1 R, 2 RBI.

Brandon Cook picked up his third loss of the season (1-3) working six innings, four runs (two earned) on six hits, two walks, and three strikeouts.
