Brewer Leads Power to 2-1 Win

(Charleston, WV - June 25, 2015) - The West Virginia Power edged the Greensboro Grasshopper 2-1 on Thursday night at Appalachian Power Park. Colten Brewer put up another stellar outing against the Grasshoppers with nine strikeouts after previously striking out 11 in his other start against Greensboro on June 1.

West Virginia tallied their only two runs of the game in the third inning. Tito Polo drew a one-out walk and reached second on a groundout. Jordan Luplow hit an RBI single to drive home Polo and Connor Joe followed with an RBI double on the first pitch he saw.

The Grasshoppers came to within one with a run in the fourth. Rony Cabrera hit a single and reached second on a walk. He scored on a double by Austen Smith.

Brewer (2-4) earned the victory with another quality start against the 'Hoppers. Brewer struck out nine over six innings of work and allowed just one run on three hits. Luis Castillo (3-3) suffered the loss despite a quality start in his fourth professional start. Nick Neumann worked a scoreless ninth for his team-best 11th save of the season while Jose Regalado earned his fifth hold of the year.

The Power (1-0, 38-32) continue their five-game series with the Grasshoppers (0-1, 29-41) on Friday night at Appalachian Power Park. RHP Austin Coley (8-4, 3.64) will take the hill for West Virginia and he will be opposed by LHP Michael Mader (3-7, 5.61). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. while pregame on Charleston's ESPN Radio 104.5 and 1490, the TuneIn Radio App, and the Power website is slated for 6:45 p.m.

Friday's game will feature another batch of postgame fireworks presented by V100 and Columbia Pipeline Group. Gates open to the general public at 6 p.m.
