Richmond Flying Squirrels News Release

RICHMOND, VA - The Richmond Flying Squirrels, Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, are excited to announce that right handed pitcher Tyler Beede has been selected to participate in the 17th annual SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game on Sunday, July 12th at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati. The Futures Game is MLB's premiere prospect showcase and Beede, along with San Jose Giants pitcher Kuery Mella are the two San Francisco player representatives on All-Star Sunday. Beede becomes the second Squirrels player to travel to the Futures game while wearing a Richmond uniform. Tommy Joseph was selected as a participant in 2012. Current Squirrels players Kyle Crick and Jesus Galindo both participated in the 2013 Futures Game contest but not as members of the Squirrels.

Beede, 22, was selected in the 1st round (14th overall) of the 2014 MLB draft out of Vanderbilt. He currently ranks as the top pitching prospect in the Giants organization according to Baseball America. The Massachusetts native began the season in Advanced-A San Jose and went 2-2 with a 2.24 ERA before being promoted to Richmond. He made his Double-A debut with the Squirrels on June 5th in New Hampshire and hurled seven scoreless innings to earn the win. He was also a member of the 2014 College World Series Vanderbilt team.
