Aces Walk to Sixth Straight Win

Reno Aces News Release

TACOMA, WASH. - The Reno Aces (@Aces) drew a pair of bases-loaded walks to snap a 4-4 tie in the top of the ninth and went on to beat the Tacoma Rainiers, 6-4, Wednesday night at Cheney Stadium.

The win is the sixth consecutive for the Aces (33-39), matching a season-high.

Peter O'Brien was the first to take ball four in the ninth. Right-hander Mayckol Guaipe jumped in front of him with a 0-2 count, but O'Brien battled back to draw the free pass and give the Aces a 5-4 lead.

After Rainiers Manager Pat Listach turned to right-hander Andrew Kittredge, the result didn't change. Still with two outs, Garrett Weber (@_weber5) took four out of the zone to push another run across and make it a 6-4 game heading to the bottom of the ninth.

For the eighth consecutive game, the Aces' opponent scored first. Tacoma jumped on top with a run in the third, and two in the fourth for a 3-0 lead.

It was short-lived, however, as Reno battled back with three runs in the fifth. Three straight hits from the Aces cut the deficit to 3-1. Oscar Hernandez (@OscarHernDbacks) doubled, Nick Buss (@chilibuss) singled and Brandon Drury's first Triple-A base hit drove in a run.

After Nick Evans was retired, Jamie Romak lined a two-run double to the wall in left-field to even the game at 3-3. It was the 22nd double of the year for Romak, which is tied with Evans for the most in the Pacific Coast League.

The Aces grabbed a 4-3 lead in the sixth when Hernandez scored Weber from second with his second double of the game. Leon Landry of the Rainiers hit a solo home run with one-out in the seventh to tie the game at 4-4, which it remained until the back-to-back bases-loaded walks in the ninth.

Reliever Matt Stites (@matt_stites) closed the game for the Aces with a scoreless ninth. He picked up his third save of the year and Evan Marshall (@emarsh31) earned the win. The Aces have never had an undefeated, multi-series road trip - something they will attempt to do in the finale Thursday.

Right-hander Archie Bradley (@ArchieBradley7) started for the Aces on a Major League rehab assignment. In four innings, Bradley allowed three runs on six hits. He did not issue a walk and recorded three strikeouts in 63 pitches.

The Aces finish their three-game set at Tacoma Thursday night. Right-hander Caleb (4-5, 5.23) starts for Reno, and Tacoma has yet to name a starter. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

Following the brief three-game trip to Tacoma, the Aces return home on Friday, June 26 for a four-day, five-game series with the Fresno Grizzlies.
