Worcester Bravehearts News Release

WORCESTER - Everything about Worcester Bravehearts infielder Zack Tower (UMass- Lowell / Auburn) has been big lately.

He continued that trend against his former team Wednesday night, June 24 as he launched two booming blasts out of Hanover Insurance Park, one of which was a grand slam, to help lead Worcester to a 9-5 win over the Pittsfield Suns.

Pittsfield took an early 2-0 lead and chased Worcester starter Miles Sheehan (Franklin Pierce / Madison, Connecticut) early, but the Bravehearts ignited their offense by scoring five in the third off Suns starter Robert Anderson (Bridgeport / Stratford, Connecticut) who was the game's losing pitcher. Anderson allowed six runs in 4.2 innings, walked five and struck out five.

Tower finished the game 2-4 with five RBI, his four home runs total is the second most in the FCBL. Worcester pitcher Clayton Dostal (Galveston / Richmond, Texas) took the win, as he pitched four innings in relief of Sheehan and kept the lead for his team.

The Suns cut their deficit down to one in the fourth inning on a 2-RBI double by shortstop Jeremy Giles (Stony Brook / Claremont, California), as he led his squad with three hits in the game. After each team added a run, Worcester padded its lead in the seventh, which included Tower's second home run of the night.

In the winning effort the Bravehearts also collected a season-high 11 hits as team. Three of those hits came from left fielder Willie Allen (Lewis-Clark State / Boston).

The Bravehearts will face the Nashua Silver Knights for the first time this season at 7:05 p.m. Thursday night, June 25 at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field. The team will host Bark in the Park Night, as fans can bring their dogs for an admittance of $3. Proceeds will benefit Valiant Veterans as well as the Gunnar Center, and while at the game some of the activities will benefit the Worcester Animal Rescue League.
