Birmingham Barons News Release

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - At the end of the second inning during Tuesday's Southern League All-Star Game in Montgomery, Ala., Regions Field was announced the winner of BallparkDigest.com's "Best of the Ballparks" fan-vote competition.

Owners Stan and Jeff Logan were recognized on the field at Riverwalk Stadium - the very ballpark Birmingham's gem took on head-to-head in the finals. Among 70,000 votes cast, Regions Field took the title by more than 700 votes.

"We are extremely honored that Regions Field has been named BallparkDigest.com's Double-A Ballpark of the Year and thank all voters who participated in this contest," Barons General Manager Jonathan Nelson said. "It is fantastic that both Double-A ballpark finalists are from the state of Alabama, and we congratulate Montgomery. This recognition reflects what a special place Regions Field is and we look forward to continuing to provide fun, memorable experiences for all fans in the future."

Regions Field was touted as the No. 1 seed by BallparkDigest.com going into the 30-ballpark bracket. Birmingham received a first-round bye and defeated the Northwest Arkansas Naturals' Arvest Ballpark in the second round. Round three saw Birmingham take a 66-40 percentage win over Chattanooga's AT&T Field, and round four was a 55-45 percentage victory over Hadlock Field, the home of the Portland Sea Dogs.

It is the second ballpark honor claimed by Regions Field this season. Baseball America named the complex baseball's best Double-A ballpark and ranked it third among all Minor League Baseball stadiums. Regions Field received its first yearly honor as it was named 2013 Ballpark of the Year by BaseballParks.com.
