Cantwell's Grand Slam Not Enough in Finale

FRISCO, TEXAS (June 24, 2015) - A four-run eighth inning helped the Midland RockHounds avoid a four-game sweep as they defeated the Frisco RoughRiders 10-9 on Wednesday at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Jaycob Brugman propelled Midland to the victory with a timely ninth inning home run to break a 9-9 tie.

Josh Hamilton and Matt Harrison made rehab appearances with the RoughRiders. Hamilton doubled, walked, and scored a run as the designated hitter. Harrison allowed five runs on nine hits and struck out three over six innings. The left-hander threw 64 of his 104 pitches for strikes.

Frisco took an early 1-0 lead on Nomar Mazara's first of two sacrifice flies on the day. But,

Midland quickly responded with a three-run second inning. Carson Blair doubled and scored on a two-out hit from Brugman and Chad Oberacker ripped a two-run double to give the RockHounds a 3-1 lead.

The RoughRiders plated six runs with a big third inning against Midland starter Nate Long. Pat Cantwell hit his first career grand slam to put Frisco on top 7-3. The home run is Cantwell's second of the season with both coming in his last two games. The Riders used three walks and three hits to score six runs.

In the fifth inning, Drew Robinson tacked on a run with his 14th home run of the season to make it 8-3 Riders. Robinson is now tied for the Texas League-lead in home runs. Long exited the game for Midland after five innings. He allowed eight runs on seven hits as he picked up a no decision.

Harrison allowed three singles to start the seventh inning before leaving the game. He finished the day with five earned runs over six innings in his first rehab appearance in Frisco. Jefri Hernandez allowed two of the base runners to score and Midland cut Frisco's lead to 8-5.

Cantwell notched a career-high fifth RBI with a sac fly in the seventh before Midland exploded for a four-run eighth inning. With one out, Josh Whitaker hit a ground ball to second, but Robinson committed his 14th error, allowing two Midland runs to score. Trailing 9-8, Chad Pinder notched an RBI-single to tie the game.

Jesus Pirela (0-1) blew his third save of the season in the eighth and gave up the game winning home run to Brugman in the ninth. Tucker Healy (2-1) pitched two perfect innings to secure Midland's comeback win and avoid a four-game sweep.

The RoughRiders (1-1, 30-42) head to Corpus Christi for a four-game series before the three-day All-Star break. LHP Chad Bell toes the rubber for Frisco at 7:05 on Thursday night. Frisco returns home on July 2 to begin a six-game home stand featuring fireworks on July 3, 4 and 5. On July 5, the first 2,000 fans will receive a free Swinging Teddy Bobblehead.
