Edmonton will open its ninth WHL season in Red Deer on Saturday, Sept. 26 followed by the Oil Kings' home opener the following afternoon against the Rebels, the team announced as the WHL schedule was unveiled Wednesday morning.

The Oil Kings match-up with the Rebels on Sunday, Sept. 27 will mark just the second time the Oil Kings have hosted their nearest rivals for their home opener, with the last time coming to kick off the 2010-11 season. Fan Appreciation Night will be held Friday, March 11 against the Hitmen before the Oil Kings wrap up their regular season with another home-and-home series with the Rebels March 17 at Rexall Place and March 19 at the Centrium in Red Deer, site of the 2016 Memorial Cup.
