HarbourCats Start Trip with a "W"

The Victoria HarbourCats crept closer to the .500 mark in this early stage of the West Coast League season on Tuesday with a nail-biting 5-4 win over the Kitsap BlueJackets.

The HarbourCats, now 7-9 on the season and riding a two-game winning streak, spent the day on boat and road getting to Silverdale, WA, to face the BlueJackets at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds. They will complete the series Wednesday and Thursday, with Alex Rogers (3-0, 0.46) and Matt Blais (0-0, 6.75) getting the starts, respectively.

On Tuesday, the HarbourCats manufactured a single run in the second, three runs in the fifth, and another run in the seventh that would prove to be very important the way the ninth inning played out. Alex DeGoti was 2-4 with a run, and Kevin Collard had a hit and two runs driven in.

Starting pitcher Austin Dondanville was one out shy of getting his first WCL win in his first WCL start, going 4.2 innings with six hits and four strikeouts. Sean O'Toole, who had a short but important outing, earned the victory.

Kitsap scored a run and had the bases loaded in the ninth off closer Josh Mitchell, but a fly ball ended the drama. Kitsap fell to 6-7 on the season.

The HarbourCats are back at home on Friday in Moon Water Lodge Night at the park, also Forces Friday with all Armed Forces and families getting into general admission seats for just $5. Saturday is Times Colonist Night at the park, with prizes every inning, and Sunday is the Ladies Diamond Dig with Barclay's Fine Jewelry and Black Press.
