Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release
Winnipeg, MT, CA June 23, 2015 - The Gary South Shore RailCats used seven shutout innings from starter Charle Rosario and another good night at the plate to take down the Winnipeg Goldeyes 5-2 Tuesday night at Shaw Park.
The RailCats took the lead in the first with Jon Jones leading off the game with a single off of Winnipeg starter Dustin Loggins. Jones picked up his sixth stolen base of the season putting him in scoring position for Gary. Zac Mitchell then moved Jones to third with a ground ball to second. Adam Taylor followed picking up his fourth RBI in the series with an infield single. JD Pulfer then singled and joined Taylor in a double steal to move the runners up. Tillman Pugh then brought Taylor home with a sac fly to right to make it 2-0.
In the fourth the South Shore picked up another run with two outs. Drew Martinez singled off of Loggins and came home on a Roger Bernal single to make it 3-0. In the seventh, the RailCats again grabbed a run with two outs. Adam Taylor singled off of reliever Tony Smith and raced home, when JD Pulfer split the left and center fielders with a triple to make it 4-0.
Winnipeg was able to scratch out a pair of runs in the eighth after Rosario left the ball game to make it 4-2. The South Shore got their final run of the night with Jon Jones going deep for his first homerun of the season to make it 5-2 in the top of the ninth.
Rosario bounced back after a rough outing in St. Paul, posting a quality start for the Cats to go to (5-2). The right hander scattered six hits and punched out four while not walking a man. Andy Loomis allowed a leadoff single in the ninth, but then worked 1-2-3 to close out the game for his ninth save of the year. Loggins (2-3) was charged with the loss for Winnipeg. While Rosario was in a groove the RailCats JD Pulfer missed a cycle by a homerun and Adam Taylor was 4 for 5 and now 8 for 10 in the two games in Canada.
The RailCats will look to sweep the series Wednesday night at Shaw Park. LHP Andy Roberts (0-2, 4.29) will go for the South Shore, while RHP Cody Cowgill (1-1, 4.77) will go for the Goldeyes. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm with the game aired on 95.9 WEFM and on RailCatsBaseball.com. The RailCats return home to US Steel Yard following a Thursday off day to take on the Lincoln Saltdogs on Friday night at 7:10pm.
