Giants Invited to Hockey Canada Camps

Vancouver, B.C. - The Vancouver Giants would like to congratulate Tyler Benson and Ryely McKinstry on being invited to Hockey Canada's National Men's Summer Under-18 Team Selection Camp and prospects Dawson Holt, Brendan Semchuk and James Malm on being invited to Hockey Canada's National Under-17 Development Camp.
"I think it's a huge honour for these guys to be recognized by Hockey Canada," said Giants Executuve Vice President and General Manager Scott Bonner. "At their respective ages, it's very important to have a chance to go to these camps and further their development."
The Under-18 camp will take place from July 31 to August 4 in Calgary. 22 players from the camp will be named to Canada's Under-18 Team for the 2015 U18 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup which will take place from August 10 to 15 in Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
The Under-17 camp will also be in Calgary from July 29 to August 4. From that camp, 66 players will be named to one of three national teams for the 2015 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge which is scheduled for October 30 to November 7.
Benson, an Edmonton native, was drafted first overall by the Giants in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft. The 17-year-old tallied 14 goals and 13 assists in 62 games in his rookie season with Vancouver in 2014/15. He has previously represented Canada at the World Under-17 Challenge and the Under-18 World Championships.
McKinstry, who hails from Calgary, had four points in 30 games on the blue line for the Giants in the 2014/15 season. The 16-year-old went to Vancouver in the 2nd round of the 2013 Bantam Draft at 23rd overall. He has also represented Canada at the World Under-17 Challenge.
Holt went to the Giants in the first round at eighth overall in the 2014 WHL Bantam Draft. A native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, the 16-year-old forward picked up 17 goals and 15 assists in 35 games with the Saskatoon Contacts of the Saskatchewan Midget AAA League in 2014/15. He also played three games for the Giants as an underage player.
Semchuk was drafted by the Giants in the first round of the 2014 WHL Bantam Draft at 10th overall. The Kamloops forward played at the Okanagan Hockey Academy at the Midget Prep level last season, tallying 26 goals and 34 assists in 46 games. The 16-year-old also suited up in three games for the Giants in 2014/15 as an underage player.
Malm went to Vancouver in the second round of the 2014 WHL Bantam Draft at 44th overall. Hailing from Langley, the 15-year-old forward was the BC Major Midget League's Player of the Month in November, 2014. Playing for the Valley West Hawks, Malm scored 20 goals and 46 assists in 31 games to finish second in the league in scoring.
