Vancouver Canadians News Release
(Volcanoes Stadium - Keizer, OR) - Despite a season-high 11 walks from the Canadians pitching staff, 2B Lane Thomas smacked a bases clearing double in the top of the 6th inning to help Vancouver to a 5-3 victory on Monday night over Salem-Keizer.
The C's offense, which had been limited to just one run over its past two games, was stymied over the first five innings by Salem-Keizer RHP Mike Connolly who faced the minimum amount of hitters allowing just one hit.
Trailing 2-0 heading to the top of the 6th inning, Vancouver finally got to Connolly as C Kevin Garcia (single), RF Sean Hurley (walk) and CF Juan Tejada (hit by pitch) loaded the bases. Shortly after Canadians SS JC Cardenas grounded into a fielder's choice which produced the first run of the night for Vancouver, 2B Lane Thomas drove a ball to left-center field that plated three more runs giving the C's their first lead of the night.
The Volcanoes would draw to within one in the bottom of the 8th inning when LHP Michael Kraft ran into trouble after a leadoff walk to CF Brennan Metzger which was followed by an RBI double off the bat of 2B Junior Amion.
Vancouver would get some much needed insurance in the top of the 9th inning when a pair of walks and a single off the bat of 3B Christian Vazquez loaded the bases off of Salem-Keizer RHP EJ Encinosa. RF Sean Hurley would hit a sacrifice fly to right field allowing 1B John Kelly to score making the final 5-3.
Notes: Vancouver would walk 11 Volcanoes hitters in the victory as RHP Joey Aquino managed the win after pitching 1 1/3 innings of work in his second appearance of the summer... With the win, Vancouver improves to 2-3 (.400) on the season and remain two games back of Everett (4-1) in the North Division... Vancouver now travels to Tri-City for a three-game series at Gesa Stadium (June 23-25) before returning home to play Hillsboro at Scotiabank Field on Friday, June 26.
