Ogden Raptors News Release

OREM - The Owlz held Ogden (1-3) to just four hits through six innings and put a runner in scoring position in every inning as Orem (3-1) extended the Raptors losing streak to three games.

Just six days after players began arriving in town, Raptors manager John Shoemaker is pleased with what he has seen in four games.

"We have a lot of kids that are giving us a great effort right now. I like the way we're playing. I like our enthusiasm," Shoemaker said. "They're listening. We're going to improve. I'm really happy so far with what I've seen other than the fact that we lost three out of four to Orem."

Jeff Boehm hit the first home run allowed by Ogden pitchers through the first four games - a two-run shot to left field - as part of a three-run second inning to start the scoring. Michael Medina's solo blast of off Owlz starter Jose Rodriguez in the fourth inning was the only run the Raptors managed in the first six frames. Medina's second home run of the season gives him seven runs batted in, and at least one RBI in each of the first four games of the season.

"Mike was in extended spring training and he probably struggled more than any one guy we had," Shoemaker said. "But to his credit, he's come out really hot and made some adjustments staying on the pitches better."

Orem added two more runs in the fifth and one run in the sixth to open up a 7-1 lead. The six-run deficit is the largest Ogden has faced in the four games against the Owlz.

Matt Jones and Yensys Capellan both doubled in the top of the seventh inning to bring in two runs, but that was as close as the Raptors got. Victor Gonzalez (0-1) took the loss, allowing four runs in four innings while Jose Rodriguez (1-0) surrendered just one run in five innings to earn the win. Skipper John Shoemaker remains optimistic as his team returns home for a six-game homestand beginning with a four-game series against the Idaho Falls Chukars that starts on Monday night.

"We've got new kids from college, new kids from extended spring [training], new kids from everywhere," Shoemaker said. "I just think the familiarity of our team will be a little bit closer when we get into the middle of the season.

After allowing 43 runs in the first three games, Idaho Falls (1-3) avoided a sweep against Grand Junction with a 15-5 win on Sunday afternoon. Although the Raptors and Chukars begin their series with identical records, Idaho Falls has scored 43 runs to Ogden's 21.

Monday night is family night at Lindquist Field. Fans can receive four box seats and four hot dogs for $20. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00pm MT. LHP Roberth Fernandez is slated to make his first start for Ogden against Idaho Falls RHP Todd Eaton.
