Lancaster JetHawks News Release

LANCASTER, Calif. - Three home runs accounted for six of seven runs against JetHawks pitching on the final day of the season's first half as Lancaster fell, 7-5, to the Lake Elsinore Storm on Sunday afternoon at The Hangar.

The JetHawks (37-33) went 2-for-10 with men in scoring position and stranded nine runners on base.

Troy Scribner (2-3) allowed just one hit through his first four innings, a two-run homer by Kyle Gaedele in the second. But the right-hander also allowed a Marcus Davis three-run homer in the sixth and received the loss, walking three batters and striking out six over six innings.

With the JetHawks trailing, 2-0, A.J. Reed and J.D. Davis opened the bottom of the second with back-to-back singles. After two strikeouts, Jose Fernandez hit a game-tying triple to the wall in right-center. The two runs, however, were the only runs the club could manage against Storm (31-39) starter Ronald Herrera (5-5). Herrera struck out seven and walked just one batter though six innings.

Lake Elsinore touched Lancaster's Tyler Brunnemann for two runs in the seventh via a Nick Schulz solo home run and a sacrifice fly by Miguel Del Castillo.

With two out in the seventh, Storm reliever Adys Portillo walked three consecutive batters to load the bases. Reed then drew a walk from new reliever Jordan Hershiser to force home a run, and Davis followed with a two-run single to make the score 7-5. But a James Ramsay flyout ended the inning with the tying run on base.

Neither team scored in the eighth, and the JetHawks entered the bottom of the ninth still trailing by two. With Jason Jester on the mound for Lake Elsinore, Jack Mayfield drew a two-out walk, and Reed hit a single to represent the tying run. But Jester escaped the jam with a groundout, handing Lancaster a fourth straight loss and a series sweep.

The JetHawks will resume play on Thursday, opening a four-game series on the road against the Bakersfield Blaze. First pitch is scheduled for 7:45 p.m., and both starting pitchers are yet to be announced.
