Birmingham Barons News Release

JACKSON, Tenn. - The Barons (33-36) used a 13-hit campaign to put away the Generals (29-39) Sunday afternoon and closed out the Southern League's first half. The 7-0 win gave Birmingham a 3-2 series win over Jackson - its seventh series victory.

The shutout, tossed by a trio of Barons hurlers, was the sixth of the half and fourth since the beginning of June. Tyler Barnette (3-3, 1.40 ERA) started the game, threw five innings of two-hit baseball and picked up the win. Zach Isler and J.B. Wendelken combined for four innings to close out the contest, and Isler earned his first hold. Generals starter Misael Siverio (2-7, 4.55 ERA) was tagged for the loss.

The majority of the game's innings saw the Barons put tally marks on the board. Birmingham scored its first run in the third and tacked on what proved to be insurance runs in the fourth, sixth, eighth and ninth as four batters recorded a multi-hit game.

All-Star Tim Anderson was 3-for-5 with two doubles, and outfielder Christian Marrero was 3-for-3 with his team-leading eighth home run. First baseman Danny Hayes and second baseman Joey DeMichele each had two hits, one of which was a solo shot from Hayes.

Anderson raised his average to .313, ranking him sixth among the Southern League's leaders, and his two doubles were his 12th and 13th of the year. He leads the league with 84 hits, and Hayes' homer was his second of the season.
