WINSTON SPLITS DE FACTO TWIN BILL

Winston-Salem led wire-to-wire in the completion of a suspended game from June 2 before falling in a seven-inning finale to the Salem Red Sox on Saturday. The Dash led 3-0 in the second when rain halted play 18 days prior, and Winston simply added to its advantage. Behind a 12-hit effort and Yency Almonte's seven-inning relief appearance, the Dash blasted Salem to oust the Red Sox from the first-half playoff conversation. In the nightcap, Salem struck with four in the first against Winston starter Brandon Brennan and never looked back in a 7-2, seven-inning win.

FIRST HALF CONCLUDES SUNDAY

Sunday marks the end of the season's first half, and Saturday's loss guaranteed that Winston-Salem would finish with the worst single-half mark during the Dash era (2009-present). In fact, Winston-Salem has recorded its three worst halves during its most recent three. The Dash were 30-39 and 31-39 in the first and second half, respectively, a year ago. However, the Dash's record will reset to 0-0 after the All-Star break, and they will battle Carolina and Salem for the right to face Myrtle Beach in the Southern Division Championship Series in September.

STATISTICAL QUIRK

On Thursday, Jake Peter's lengthy hit streak came to an end with an 0-for-3, two-RBI game. At that moment, it stood as a 20-game hit streak, but the suspended game from June 2 was still in limbo. Because Peter went hitless in that contest, his hit streak dips down to 14 games. All statistics--even the ones logged on Saturday--revert back to June 2. Peter had hit safely in six straight games entering June 2, which means that his season-long streak went from 20 to 14.

BARNUM BOPPING

Winston-Salem infielder Keon Barnum has hit well since returning from a month-long stint on the disabled list (oblique). In those five contests, Barnum is 6-for-19 (.316), including a pair of two-hit showings. Barnum clubbed his first long ball since May 7 in Saturday's fourth inning.

THREE ALL-STARS HEADING WEST

After this game, three Winston-Salem players will make the trip for Tuesday's California-Carolina League All-Star Game in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. Righties James Dykstra and Matt Heidenreich are expected to pitch, while catcher Omar Narvaez will likely catch the final few innings behind starting catcher Spencer Kieboom of Potomac. Winston-Salem's Trey Michalczewski was supposed to start at third base, but a back injury forced him out of the game. The game will start at approximately 10:30 p.m. EDT from LoanMart Field, the home of the Quakes (Los Angeles Dodgers).

A BB&T BALLPARK FIRST?

Salem enters Sunday's game with a chance to sweep the Dash. If the Red Sox complete the brooming, they would become the first team to collect two sweeps of the Dash at BB&T Ballpark. The Dash have only endured four home sweeps since the downtown facility opened its doors in 2010. Winston won at least one game in each of its first 81 series inside BB&T Ballpark before Salem notched a three-game sweep from August 14-16, 2013. Both Frederick and Carolina accomplished the feat a season ago, while Myrtle Beach took all three of a rain-shortened set from April 17-18 of this year.

AFTER THE BREAK

The Dash will begin the second half with a quick three-game trip to Lynchburg before returning home for a three-game set against Myrtle Beach, the Southern Division's first-half champions. The Dash will not have two consecutive home sets until July 19-24, while the team will not make a two-stop road trip until August 11-16.

DASH DOTS

Sunday marks Brian Clark's third start with the Dash...In his first two, Clark has whiffed nine over seven innings, during which he has given up three runs on six hits...The Dash and Red Sox will meet for the 18th time in the first half...After the break, Winston and Salem will only tangle six times (August 7-9 and August 14-16).
