Gyorko Walk-Off Single Gives Chihuahuas Fourth Straight Win

June 20, 2015 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
El Paso Chihuahuas News Release

Jedd Gyorko's second walk-off hit of the series gave the El Paso Chihuahuas a 5-4 win over the Salt Lake Bees Saturday night at Southwest University Park. The Chihuahuas have won four consecutive games and five straight home games, with four of those five home games ending in walk-off fashion.

The Chihuahuas took a 1-0 lead on Tommy Medica's second inning groundout. It was the fifth consecutive game El Paso scored the first run of the game. Gyorko's solo home run in the fourth put the Chihuahuas ahead 2-0, a lead that held until Salt Lake plated three in the top of the seventh.

Down 4-2 in the bottom of the ninth, Abraham Almonte's two-run triple tied the game. Almonte took off from third when Gyorko's ground ball went in between the shortstop and third baseman to win the game.

The Chihuahuas have produced nine hits or more in four consecutive games. El Paso starter Chris Smith allowed only one run in six innings of work Saturday. Gyorko has home runs in back-to-back games. Salt Lake manager Dave Anderson was ejected after arguing an inning-ending play at the plate in the eighth.

Next Game: Sunday, 6:05 p.m. at Southwest University Park. Salt Lake LHP Adam Wilk (2-2, 5.06) vs. El Paso LHP Robbie Erlin (5-4, 5.27). Game coverage begins at 5:55 p.m. on 600 ESPN El Paso and www.epchihuahuas.com.
