Austin Aztex News Release

Austin, Texas - The Austin Aztex and Tulsa Roughnecks FC came away with a 1-1 draw on Saturday at Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex in Austin. With the draw, the Aztex move to (5-7-2) on the season while Tulsa moves to (4-6-3).

After a scoreless first half, two goals in an action packed second half would make the difference in the match, which featured both clubs sitting just outside of the playoff standings.

The Aztex came out firing to start the game, controlling possession for most of the first half with 11 total shots. Kris Tyrpak seemed to score the opening goal in the 19^th minute with a header that found the back of the net, but was called offside. Tulsa created chances on the counter attack, but both defenses held strong as the first half ended in scoreless.

After several long range tries, the Aztex jumped out to a lead in the 55^th minute when Guaraci gathered the ball in the middle of the field and fired a shot from 33 yards out. The shot was deflected by a defender, but found the back right of the net to give the Aztex a 1-0 lead.

That lead held until a foul in the box by Lance Rozeboom in the 85^th minute gave the Roughnecks a penalty kick, which forward Sammy Ochoa converted to tie the game at 1-1. The Aztex came close to a game-winner in the final minutes of extra time, when a deflected save resulted in a flurry of shots from Guaraci and forward Trevin Caesar in a crowded box, all of which were turned away by Tulsa goalkeeper Zac Lubin and the Roughnecks defense.

The Aztex will continue their USL season on Saturday, June 27^th when they will host the defending champion Sacramento Republic FC at Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex.
