Match Forecast: Reign FC Returns to Action in Road Matchup against Boston

SEATTLE (June 20, 2015) - After a two-week break during FIFA Women's World Cup group play, Seattle Reign FC (3-2-2, 11 pts) returns to NWSL action on Sunday, June 21 at 1 p.m. PT against the Boston Breakers (3-3-2, 11 pts) at Soldiers Field Soccer Stadium in Allston, Mass.

Both Reign FC and the Breakers enter the match on four-game league unbeaten streaks, with two wins and two draws each over the past month.

For Seattle, that stretch includes a 3-0 victory over Sky Blue FC on June 6. Scottish international Kim Little scored her first goal of the season, while midfielders Keelin Winters and Jessica Fishlock also found the net in the win. Goalkeeper Haley Kopmeyer posted her second clean sheet in four starts.

"I think [the match against Sky Blue] gave us confidence," head coach and general manager Laura Harvey said. "We looked at a few things and tweaked a few things that we believe we should be good at but hadn't been good at lately. A lot of those things came into place against Sky Blue."

Meanwhile, the Breakers are coming off a 1-1 draw with the Washington Spirit on June 6, in which defender Maddy Evans had the team's lone goal.

Both teams will be without key members for Sunday's match due to World Cup play. Seattle is missing goalkeeper Hope Solo and forward Megan Rapinoe, both with the U.S. Women's National Team, while the Breakers won't have U.S goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher, Mexican defender Bianca Sierra and Brazilian midfielder Rafinha.

With the absences, Boston will be led by midfielder Kristie Mewis, who leads the NWSL in shots with 40, and is second in shots on goal with 17.

Mewis is one of four Breakers to start all eight of the team's matches, alongside defenders Kassey Kallman and Mollie Pathman, and forward Stephanie McCaffrey. Mewis and McCaffrey are also tied on the team in goals with two apiece.

"Boston have been really hard to play against this season and their results at home have been great," Harvey added. "We feel prepared for Sunday's match and we know it's going to be a great game."

Last season, Reign FC posted a 3-0-0 record against the Breakers, winning a pair of home matches and a road tilt.

In last year's season opener, Seattle kicked off what has become a 17-game home unbeaten streak at Memorial Stadium with 3-0 victory over Boston behind a pair of goals from Little and a third from Rapinoe.

At Boston, forward Beverly Yanez and midfielder Keelin Winters notched goals in a 2-0 victory on June 19, while midfielder Jessica Fishlock scored in a 3-2 win on July 6 in Seattle.

Sunday's match is the first of three regular season games between Reign FC and the Breakers. The two sides will face off again in Boston on August 1 at 1 p.m. PT, and will play a lone match in Seattle on August 26 at 7 p.m.
