2015 Home Run Derby Participants Announced

Rancho Cucamonga, CA - As the All-Star Game draws closer, the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes are excited to announce the six U.S. Bank Home Run Derby participants.

The three-man Cal League team will consist of local favorite Cody Bellinger of the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, High Desert Maverick Alex Burg and Cal League home run leader A.J. Reed of the Lancaster JetHawks.

The 19-year-old Bellinger is the youngest player in the All-Star Game and has had an impressive start tothe season, as he leads the Quakes with 12 home runs through the first half. Baseball America hails the former fourth-round pick as the Dodgers' 20-best prospect in their system.

Alex Burg of the Mavs will take part in the Derby as well, as he's currently second on the Cal League leader-board in home runs with 15 in the first half. Burg is a Cal League veteran, as he was originally drafted by San Francisco and played for the San Jose Giants back in parts of the 2011 and 2012 seasons.

Rounding out the Cal League team will be A.J. Reed of Lancaster. Not only does Reedlead the circuit in dingers, but he's second in all of the minors with his 17 homers and 60 RBIs, respectively. The former 2nd-round pick of the Astros played at the University of Kentucky and as a Junior, won the Golden Spikes Award as college baseball's best player.

The three-man Carolina League team will certainly have a unique look to it, as all three participants are coming from the same team. The Lynchburg Hillcats will be well-represented by outfielders Bradley Zimmer and Luigi Rodriguez, as well as first baseman Nellie Rodriguez. The three Hillcats are not only the top-three home run hitters on their own team, they are the top-three home run hitters in the league.

Luigi Rodriguez is the current leader of the Hillcats and the Carolina league with 10 round-trippers.

Nellie Rodriguez, who is second in the league with nine home runs, leads the league with 52 RBIs. In 2014, the left-handed slugger paced the Midwest League with 22 blasts for the Lake County Captains.

Zimmer is tied with his Lynchburg teammate Nellie Rodriguez for second in the league with nine home runs. A former first-rounder, the Indians' second-ranked prospect according to Baseball America is one of the top prospects that will appear at the All-Star Game.

The All-Stars will be captained by former major leaguers, Adam Kennedy (Carolina) and Shawn Green (California).

The six All-Stars will also be joined by a pair of "Joes", who will qualify to compete in the actual Home Run Derby, as part of the "Pros" vs "Joes" segment of the Derby. Fans that wish to participate in the "Joes" portion of the U.S. Bank Home Run Derby are reminded that this is a first-come, first-served opportunity, with registration starting at 2:30pm and the derby to get underway at 3:00pm on Softball Field 3, adjacent to LoanMart Field. Participants must make a $5 donation to the Inland Empire United Way and also have a ticket to the game in order to qualify for the derby.
