Tacoma Rainiers News Release
RENO, Nev. -- Jesus Montero and Leon both drove in three runs as the Tacoma Rainiers rolled to a 9-6 win over the Reno Aces at Aces Ballpark on Wednesday night.
Montero provided the Rainiers an early lead after his second triple of the season and a throwing error committed by Aces shortstop Mike Freeman led a pair of runs with one out in the top of the first inning. Tacoma's advantage grew to 3-0 after Stefen Romero hit a solo home run - his ninth this year - one out later in the frame.
A sacrifice fly from Montero kicked off a five-run inning in the top of the third. Franklin Gutierrez boosted the Rainiers advantage to 5-0 with an RBI single, and the outfielder Landry capped off the offensive outburst with a one-out, three-run home run.
The first baseman Montero capped off a ten-hit night for Tacoma after lining a two-out single in the top of the sixth. Montero entered Wednesday's contest with Reno ranked fourth in the Pacific Coast League in RBI. He leads the team with 50 RBI through 65 games played.
Gutierrez ended the night 2-for-4 with a pair of singles on the way to extending his league-leading hitting streak to 20 games. The outfielder is now batting .370 with 17 runs scored and 13 RBI since May 22. He is now six games shy of equaling Tacoma's franchise record for most consecutive games with a hit.
Starter Justin Germano (6-2) limited the Aces to six runs - four earned - on six hits through 6.0 innings of work. The right-hander struck out one without issuing a walk in his ninth start with the Rainiers this season.
Mayckol Guaipe gave up two hits over 2.0 scoreless innings after entering the game in the seventh, and right-hander Danny Farquhar collected his first save of 2015 following a perfect inning in the ninth.
The Rainiers (32-35) hit the road and head to Albuquerque to begin a four-game series with the Isotopes tomorrow, June 18. Right-hander Sam Gaviglio (6-5, 4.64) is slated to start for Tacoma. Left-hander John Lannan (3-1, 3.25) is expected to start for Albuquerque. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
