Houston Dynamo FC News Release

HOUSTON (Wednesday, June 17, 2015) - The Houston Dynamo face the Austin Aztex at 7:30 p.m. CT tonight at BBVA Compass Stadium in the fourth round of the U.S. Open Cup. Lower level tickets are $15 and are available at www.HoustonDynamo.com, by calling 713-276-GOAL, or by visiting the BBVA Compass Stadium box office (2200 Texas St., Houston).

Tonight's game is on course to be played despite recent inclement weather in the Houston area. The club will provide any updates on the status of the game if necessary. Fans and media can track updates through www.HoustonDynamo.com and the club's social media channels, including Twitter.com/HoustonDynamo and Facebook.com/HoustonDynamo.

Tonight's game will be streamed live at www.HoustonDynamo.com/Live and can be heard on Yahoo Sports Radio 1560 AM.

The Aztex play in USL, the third tier of U.S. Soccer, and reached the fourth round by defeating the Laredo Heat (PDL) in the second round and San Antonio Scorpions (NASL) in the third round, with 2-0 wins in both games. The Dynamo are trying to defeat a lower-level opponent in the fourth round for the third straight season after dispatching the Laredo Heat last year and FC Tucson in 2013. The winner of tonight's game will advance to the Round of 16, set for June 30 or July 1. The Round of 16 draw is set for 10 a.m. CT on Thursday.

The Dynamo defeated Austin in the only previous competitive game, a 2-0 win on July 1, 2009 in the U.S. Open Cup. Corey Ashe and Dominic Oduro each scored in the Dynamo win at Nelson Field in Austin. With the win, the Dynamo advanced and defeated the Charleston Battery, 4-0, in the quarterfinals before falling to the Seattle Sounders, 2-1 after extra time, in the semifinals.

The U.S. Open Cup is the oldest soccer competition in the United States, in its 102nd edition this year. The single-elimination knockout tournament is open to all United States Soccer Federation affiliated teams, from amateur clubs to MLS clubs. The 2015 edition began with the preliminary round on April 25 with a total of 91 teams, followed by 42 lower-level clubs meeting in the first round. Clubs from USL (U.S. third division) entered the competition in the second round and teams from the NASL (U.S. second division) joined in the third round. All 17 American-based MLS clubs enter the competition for the fourth round. The Open Cup champion receives a place in the CONCACAF Champions League next year. The Seattle Sounders won the 2014 U.S. Open Cup with a 3-1 victory over the Philadelphia Union after extra time in the final at PPL Park. Seattle has won the Cup in four of the last six years.

After tonight's game, the Dynamo travel to face the Portland Timbers at 9:30 p.m. CT on Saturday at Providence Park. For tickets for the Dynamo's tenth season, including five-game plans starting at $99, visit www.HoustonDynamo.com or call 713-276-GOAL.
