Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Alain Nasreddine, part of the coaching duo that helped Wilkes-Barre/Scranton lead the American Hockey League in defense four of the last five seasons, was named an assistant coach for the New Jersey Devils today. Nasreddine joins former Penguins head coach John Hynes, who was hired as head coach of the Devils on June 2.

In his first year as assistant coach for the Penguins, Nasreddine helped lead the team to a 58-21-0-1 record and the franchise's first-ever Macgregor Kilpatrick Trophy as AHL regular-season champions in 2010-11. Over his years behind the bench for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Nasreddine coached defensive groups that allowed the fewest goals in the league during the 2010-11 (183), 2012-13 (178), 2013-14 (185) and 2014-15 (163) seasons.

Nasreddine, 39, played 15 years of professional hockey as a defenseman, including five seasons with the Penguins organization from 2003-04 through 2007-08. During that time he suited up in 56 games for Pittsburgh, notching five points (1G-4A). He also skated in 249 contests for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, totaling 55 points on 13 goals and 42 assists. He added seven points (3G-4A) in 57 postseason games, and helped the team earn two berths in the Calder Cup Final in 2004 and 2008.

Nasreddine was selected as a member of Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's inaugural Hall of Fame class on January 10, 2014.

Nasreddine, who was originally drafted by Florida in the sixth round (135th overall) of the 1993 NHL Draft, played for four NHL teams in his career - Chicago, Montreal, NY Islanders and Pittsburgh. He was acquired by the Pittsburgh Penguins from the New York Islanders for Steve Webb on March 8, 2004.

The Montreal, Quebec native also saw action in 850 combined games with Carolina, Portland, Fredericton, Quebec, Hamilton and Bridgeport of the AHL and Indianapolis of the International Hockey League. He played his last two seasons with Nuremberg of the German Elite League.
