June 16, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League, today announced that the team has acquired the ECHL rights to forwards Jonathan Parker and Rob Ricci. Reading acquired the rights to Parker as completion of the future considerations element of the trade that sent defenseman Dan Ford to the Indy Fuel on November 27, 2014. Ricci's rights conclude the future considerations element of the trade that sent forward Brock Higgs to the Stingrays on November 28.
Last season, Parker (5'10/197) (23), who will be entering his fifth year of pro, registered twenty-six points (10g-16a) and sixteen penalty minutes in twenty-seven games with the Colorado Eagles of the ECHL before being traded to Indy on January 8. Parker, who was leading the Eagles in points per game average at the time of the trade, played in two games for the Fuel without registering any points or penalty minutes. Parker, who hails from Solano Beach, California, became the first San Diego-born player to sign an NHL contract when he signed with the Buffalo Sabres in 2011. That deal came on the heels of Parker's final year of major junior, when he led the Prince Albert Raiders of the WHL with forty-five goals (and eighty-six points) in seventy-one games. Parker, who has played 76 AHL games with the Rochester Americans (6g-6a=12pts), has registered sixty-seven points (27g-40a) in eighty-three career ECHL games.
Ricci (5'9/177) (30), who will be entering his seventh year of pro, scored twenty-one goals and assisted on twenty-two others (forty-three points) in seventy-two total games last season. He began the year with the Dundee Stars of the Elite Ice Hockey League (Great Britain) (6g-4a=10pts in fifteen games) before returning to North America and joining the Brampton Beast of the ECHL in mid-November. Ricci, who hails from Brampton, Ontario, racked up fourteen points (4g-10a) in twenty-four games with the Beast before being traded to the Stingrays in mid-January. In thirty-three regular season games with South Carolina, Ricci registered nineteen points (11g-8a) and added three more (1g-2a) in eleven post-season games in the Stingrays' run to the Kelly Cup Finals. This season marked the fourth stint in South Carolina for Ricci, who was a member of the Stingrays' 2009 Kelly Cup Championship team and led South Carolina in scoring in 2010-11 with fifty-four points (26g-28a) in sixty-seven games. In 200 career ECHL games, Ricci has recorded 139 points (66g-73a) and 76 penalty minutes. He has also played 128 career games in Europe where he has racked up 124 points (54g-70a) in 79 PIMs. Prior to turning pro, Ricci played three seasons at Merrimack College, where he registered 83 points (34g-49a) in ninety-nine total college games for the Warriors.
