June 14, 2015 - Atlantic League (AtL)
York Revolution News Release

The red-hot Sugar Land Skeeters won a tenth consecutive game and completed a five-game sweep of the York Revolution with a 7-2 final on Sunday afternoon in front of 3,955 fans at Constellation Field. The Revs will look to regroup as they travel home on Monday's off-day before hosting the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs on Tuesday night.

Things got off to a back-and-forth start before the Skeeters would take control.

Sugar Land struck for two runs in the bottom of the first inning as Jeremy Barfield ripped an RBI double to left and Travis Scott stroked an RBI single to center for a pair of two-out runs.

York answered with two outs in the second as Starlin Rodriguez laced an RBI double down the left field line and scored on a Wilson Valdez single to left, tying the game at 2-2. The base hit for Valdez extended his hitting streak to seven consecutive games.

Sugar Land took the lead for good in the bottom of the third scoring a pair of unearned runs. After an error on third baseman Steve Proscia to begin the inning, Barfield and Scott drew one-out walks to load the bases. Chris Wallace chopped a ground ball to deep short for a fielder's choice RBI with the force recorded at third base. Denny Almonte then grounded an RBI single through the right side, giving Sugar Land a 4-2 lead.

Wallace connected on a three-run home run to left-center off reliever Shawn Teufel in the fifth, giving Sugar Land the decisive 7-2 advantage. It capped a four-RBI day for Wallace who has totaled 12 of his 25 RBI on the season in 11 games played against York. Three of his five home runs have been hit against the Revs.

York racked up five hits offensively in the first two innings but managed just two singles over the final seven frames as the Skeeters made the lead stand up.

Sugar Land starter Shane Loux (3-2) earned the win, allowing two runs on seven hits over six innings of work.

Revs starter Anthony Lerew (3-3) suffered the loss, charged with four runs (two earned) on five hits over four innings, pitching on short rest.

Sugar Land has now won 12 of its last 13 and 15 of its last 18 games, pulling into a tie for first place after trailing by as many as eight games in the standings on May 28.

York has dropped seven straight games tying a club record for a fifth time and first since August, 2013.

The Revs fall to 3-9 against the Skeeters, having lost six straight head-to-head and eight of the last nine meetings. It matches the longest streak in the head-to-head series along with a six-game winning streak by the Skeeters from April 27-June 18, 2012.

York right-hander Matt Neil (1-3, 4.73) will get the start on Tuesday against the Blue Crabs with first pitch set for 6:30 p.m. It is Engineering Night and Nerd Night at Santander Stadium. Tickets are on sale at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
