Lehigh Valley blanks Norfolk

Norfolk Tides News Release
Lehigh Valley plated a run in the 14th inning to outlast Norfolk 1-0 Friday night at Harbor Park.
Former Tide Russ Canzler opened the 14th frame with a single off of Patrick McCoy (1-2) before moving to second on a sacrifice bunt by Chris McGuinness. After a popout, Jordan Danks lofted an RBI double to left field to plate Canzler and give the IronPigs the lone run of the game.
The Tides had several chances to push across a run in the contest but finished 0-for-15 with runners in scoring position. The Tides left at least one runner on base in each of the final four extra innings, including stranding Paul Janish at third base after a leadoff triple in the eleventh frame.
Tides starter Michael Bowden did not factor in the decision despite turning in his strongest start of the season. The 28-year-old took a no-hitter into the seventh inning before yielding a leadoff double to Canzler - who was later erased on an inning-ending double play. Bowden allowed just the one hit and issued two walks while striking out two over seven innings as he lowered his ERA to 1.32 this season.
Over his last six appearances - a stretch that has included four starts - Bowden has now gone 26.0 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run. Over that span, he's yielded one unearned run on 14 hits and seven walks as opposing batters have hit .159 (14-88) with 18 strikeouts.
Bowden's no-hit bid came on the heels of the effort turned in by Chris Jones in a series-opening win Thursday night, as Jones took a perfect game into the sixth inning before yielding a one-out single.
Chris Parmelee led Norfolk's 10-hit attack with three singles as he extended his hitting streak to eight games. Janish added two hits and two walks, while Dariel Alvarez added a double and a single.
The two clubs continue their four-game series Saturday night at Harbor Park, with first pitch slated for 7:05 pm. Zach Davies (3-4, 2.80) gets the start for the Tides and will be opposed by left-hander Joely Rodriguez (2-6, 6.36).
Saturday night is Marine Corps Night at Harbor Park, as active duty and retired Marine personnel and their dependents can show their ID at the box office to get box seats for $8.50 and reserved seats for $7.50. There will be a pregame performance by the Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon, and there will also be a postgame fireworks show presented by Navy Mutual Aid Association.
