Former USHL Forward Nick Oliver Joins Stampede Coaching Staff

Sioux Falls, SD-The Sioux Falls Stampede announced Friday that Nick Oliver has been named assistant coach with the club. He replaces Dallas Steward who stepped down to pursue another coaching opportunity. Christian Bragnalo remains with the team as an assistant coach/strength coach for the Herd.

Oliver is a native of Roseau, Minnesota and spent the past four seasons skating at St. Cloud State University. He served as captain this past season while leading the Huskies to the NCAA West Regional championship game. He was a member of the Huskies WCHA McNaughton Cup championship in 2013 and NCHC Penrose Cup Championship in 2014 where he also skated as an assistant captain. He was a member of the Huskies first trip to the NCAA Frozen Four in 2012-13.

He recently earned the 2015 NCHC Sportsmanship Award and was also named the Most Determined Player at SCSU. While at St. Cloud State, Oliver was named to the All-NCHC Academic Team twice was a WCHA Scholar Athlete in 2013 and made the deans list all four years at school.

"We are thrilled to add Nick to our coaching staff," stated Stampede head coach/GM Scott Owens. "He is a great young man with a bright future in coaching and someone we feel will fit in well with the team. His experience having played recently in the USHL and Division I college hockey will be very helpful in recruiting and working with players."

Oliver is no stranger to the USHL having played with the Fargo Force from 2008 to 2011. He was an assistant captain in 2011 and helped guide the Force to the Clark Cup Final in 2009 and 2010. He skated in 121 career games, tallying 37 points. Prior to joining the Force, Oliver was captain at Roseau High School in 2009 and led the Rams to the Minnesota State High School Hockey Tournament championship in 2007. In 2009, Oliver was a fourth round selection of the NHL's Nashville Predators.

His coaching background includes time at St. Cloud State where he assisted coaches with player recruits visiting campus and working the Upper Midwest Elite League. He was also very active in the community, working St. Cloud State University youth hockey camps, Eat Grand Forks summer hockey camps and Detroit Lakes summer hockey camps.

Oliver begins his duties with the Stampede immediately and will be part of the 2015 Tryout Camp, presented by Sioux Falls Specialty Hospital and Sioux Falls Ford. Nearly 100 players will be at the PREMIER Center beginning Friday evening and through Monday afternoon, all vying for a chance to crack the Stampede training camp roster in September.
