Hall wins James McNally CCBUA Umpire Award

June 12, 2015 - Cape Cod League (Cape Cod) News Release

Longtime Cape Cod Baseball League umpire Peter Hall is the 2015 recipient of the James McNally CCBUA Umpire Award.

Hall, a 30-year umpire and deputy commissioner for the league, was chosen in recognition of his significant contributions to the the Cape Cod Baseball Umpires Association and its members.

The award, given in memory of James McNally, who died two years ago after falling from a roof, is bestowed upon a CCBUA member who is a role model with a positive demeanor and professional attitude both on and off the field; an individual continually striving to develop umpiring skills; and someone who unselfishly dedicates his efforts toward fellow umpires in an effort to benefit their understanding and perception of baseball.

Hall, a graduate of Harvard University in 1969, was part of the Crimson's undefeated football team in 1968. He is a past president of the College Baseball Umpires Association of New England and is currently a volunteer football coach for Monomoy High School.

Hall also received the 2004 Curly Clement Award, presented for officiating excellence and contributions over the years to umpiring in the Cape Cod Baseball League. McNally received the award in 2005.

McNally was an honorary CCBUA member and legendary umpire who worked games in the Cape League, Minor League Baseball, The Boston Park League and College Baseball before his death in 2013. He volunteered his time participating as a mentor, clinician, and guest speaker to the CCBUA and its members.

Doug Mason won the inaugural James McNally Award in 2014.
