Tacoma Rainiers News Release

TACOMA, Wash. - Jesus Montero's two-run home run in the bottom of the tenth inning lifted the Tacoma Rainiers to a 4-3 series-opening victory over the Albuquerque Isotopes on Thursday night at Cheney Stadium.

Rainiers starting pitcher Stephen Landazuri surrendered two runs (one earned) in his 4.1 innings of work, allowing seven hits and striking out four.

James Jones (3x4) was the only Tacoma batter with multiple hits, while Franklin Gutierrez and Jesus Montero both provided a pair of RBI.

Logan Bawcom spelled Landazuri in the fifth inning and provided 1.2 innings of perfect relief. Lucas Luetge followed from the bullpen with 2.0 innings of scoreless work, allowing just one hit with two strikeouts.

Edgar Olmos surrendered the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth inning, but earned his first victory of the year courtesy of Montero's walk-off shot.

Two walks, a passed ball and an RBI single from Angelys Nina in the opening frame put the Isotopes on the board first, giving the visitors an early 2-0 lead.

Gutierrez extended his hitting streak to a team-best 16 games and tied the game up with one swing in the third inning, plating Shawn O'Malley and Jones with a two-RBI single. His current 16-game hitting streak is the longest active streak in the Pacific Coast League.

Back-to-back doubles from Matt McBride and Nina to open the first frame of extras gave the Isotopes a 3-2 lead.

Jones' one-out single in the Rainiers half of the tenth inning set up the walk-off home run from Montero, who sent the winning shot the over "R" Yard party deck beyond the left field wall.

The four-game set continues tomorrow with a pitching matchup between Tacoma right-hander Justin Germano (5-2, 2.61) and Isotopes southpaw John Lannan (2-1, 3.72). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
