June 8, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Fort Wayne Komets News Release
Fort Wayne, IN-- The ECHL announced Monday that Blake Sebring of The Fort Wayne News-Sentinel has been selected as the 2014-15 recipient of the ECHL Outstanding Media Award.
The award is decided by a vote of league media members, media relations directors and broadcasters.
The Komets would like to congratulate Sebring for receiving the award for his hard work and dedication in covering the Komets. Sebring has been covering the Komets for the Fort Wayne afternoon paper for 23 of the last 25 seasons. He earned the beat when legendary sports editor Bud Gallmeier retired after covering the Komets for a record 35 years.
Sebring has also authored seven books including "Fort Wayne Sports History," "Tales of the Komets," "Legends of the Komets" and "Live From Radio Rinkside: The Bob Chase Story."
Most recently, the sports writer and columnist was elected to the Indiana Sports Writers and Sportscasters Association (ISSA) Hall of Fame for the class of 2015. Sebring was inducted April 12.
Besides the Komets, Sebring has also covered Indiana University football, IPFW volleyball, the U.S. Olympic festivals, college bowl games and various high school sports for The News-Sentinel. Sebring can also be heard on local radio on occasion and has won more than 40 awards for his journalism excellence.
2014-15 is the 13th season the ECHL has presented the Outstanding Media Award to a journalist in a member city since it was first awarded in 2002-03.
