Portland Winterhawks Defenseman Layne Viveiros will not return for his 20-year-old season, as he has signed a professional contract with EC Red Bull Salzburg of the Austrian Hockey League.
Viveiros played four seasons with the Winterhawks, totaling 11 goals and 60 assists for 71 points in 195 career games, and led the team's defensemen in scoring with a career-high 43 points in 2014-15. Viveiros was a member of the 2012-13 WHL Championship team.

"Layne provided a stable, veteran presence on our blueline last season, and we wish him well as he looks to advance his career in Austria."
Although born in Alberta, Canada, Viveiros spent much of his childhood in Austria while his father, Emanuel, coached there. Viveiros has also represented Austria on several occasions in international play.
