Knighthawks' Cody Jamieson on the Road to Recovery

June 8, 2015 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Rochester Knighthawks News Release

The Rochester Knighthawks announced today that forward and reigning National Lacrosse League MVP Cody Jamieson had successful surgery to repair a torn Achilles tendon. The surgery was performed on May 27th by team orthopedic surgeon Dr. Ilya Voloshin.

"The surgery has happened and they said everything went well," Jamieson said. "I think with this type of injury you just have to take it one day at a time because it depends on how the body responds. I am definitely not going to push it.

"I am usually a pretty active guy, so I am looking forward to the rehab process, ditching the crutches and being able to do all the stuff that came naturally."

The 27-year-old Jamieson, who was injured on May 16th, finished the regular season by matching his career high with 36 goals and leading the Knighthawks with 92 points. He concluded the season tied for 10th in the NLL in points, while tying for the league-lead with four game-winning goals. He was also only one of two Rochester players to record a point in all 18 regular season games.

Over his five seasons in the NLL, Jamieson has amassed an impressive 164 goals and 263 assists for 427 points. He has also won two NLL Championship Game MVP honors en route to three straight Champion's Cups (2012-14). In his lacrosse career, he has also won a Minto Cup and back-to-back Mann Cups, to go along with an NCAA title with Syracuse, and back-to-back national junior college championships. With so much accomplished at such a young age, Knighthawks assistant coach Paul Day is excited to have Jamieson back in the lineup next season.

"I can't wait to see the well-rested, fresh, hungry Cody Jamieson after the rehab," said Day. "It will be tough, but the lacrosse world better watch out. This guy has played so much lacrosse between Minto Cups, NCAA championships, Mann Cups and NLL titles, which takes a toll on a body. After some rehab, rest and much needed relaxation, he will rip it up once again."

This postseason, "Jammer" had a career-high nine points in the opening round victory over the Buffalo Bandits on May 8th. After reaching the 2015 East Division Finals, Jamieson and the Knighthawks are focused on making another run at the NLL Finals in 2016.

"We'll be back next year to try to start it all over," said Jamieson. "I don't really look back; I look forward to the next year. The mentality that I have is I want to win every year I play. I think that's the same with everybody. I just don't want the winning to stop."
