Barnstormers Sweep Pair From Camden

June 2, 2015 - Atlantic League (AtL)
Lancaster Stormers News Release

The Lancaster Barnstormers have Clipper Magazine Stadium solved. Now, they need to tackle the puzzle that has been the road in 2015.

Lancaster swept the Camden Riversharks, 7-3 and 4-3, on a rain-soaked Tuesday evening, rallying in both ends of the doubleheader, to complete a 6-1 homestand and move into a tie for second place in the Freedom Division.

Brian Cavazos-Galvez capped the evening with a bases loaded sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh to win the nightcap after Lancaster had fallen behind, 3-0, in the early stages.

Newcomer Anderson Feliz singled to left with one out in the seventh, and Tyler Bortnick followed suit. Blake Gailen walked to load the bases off T.J. Chism (0-1). Rob Bryson worked ahead of Cavazos-Galvez, 0-2. The Lancaster right field took a ball before lofting a fly ball to medium deep left center. Feliz raced home ahead of the throw from left fielder Daniel Rockett as the Barnstormers celebrated their second walkoff win of the homestand.

Ryan Strieby had staked Camden to a 2-0 lead through the first three innings with a pair of RBI singles that produced unearned runs off Bryan Woodall. Camden stretched the lead to 3-0 in the top of the fourth on a double by Carlos Guzman, a ground out by Eddie Sorondo, infield hit by Evan Crawford and sac fly to center by Michael Rockett.

Brandon Jones slugged a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth as Lancaster drew closer. Bortnick doubled into the right field corner with one out in the fifth and rode home when Cavazos-Galvez tripled beyond Guzman's reach deep in the left center alley.

Scott Gracey (2-0) replaced Woodall in the seventh to earn the win.

In the opener, Mike Costanzo's two-run homer in the top of the fifth staked the Riversharks to a 3-2 lead. Bortnick managed to tie the game with a safely squeeze that scored Yusuke Kajimoto in the bottom of the inning, and Lancaster took charge of the game in the sixth.

Kevin Rivers opened the sixth with his third hit of the game, a single to center. Juan Apodaca advanced Rivers to second with a sacrifice, the Barnstormers' fourth of the contest. Lance Zawadzki drilled a liner to center that was flagged by Michael Rockett, but Kajimoto delivered, knocking a 1-2 pitch from Ryan Kulik (4-2) into right center for the go-ahead hit. Feliz walked to add a second runner. Bortnick sent both home with a triple to right for a 6-3 lead, and a passed ball got the Lancaster second baseman home.

Kyle Simon (1-0), making his Atlantic League debut, earned the win.

Lancaster travels to Somerset on Wednesday. The Barnstormers will send left-hander Matt Packer (3-3) to the hill against fellow southpaw Sean Bierman (3-1). Fans may tune into 1390-AM, WLAN; rumba 1390.com or the I Heart Radio cell phone app, beginning at 6:45.
